Mare Grading
We are delighted to have two of our mares pass as Class 1 RID mares this year. The first, Laighlands Meg o' The Mill (Oefa) is a home bred three year old, out of Ginger Colleen by Ballyknowe Prince who is scanned in foal to Classic Scott. The second is a lovely compact black mare, named Raffera Rose, who will be covered at the start of next year. A good day was had by all, and the sun even made an appearance for our English, and Irish guests!

Blair Castle horse trials
Both of our stallions were invited to Blair Castle International Horse Trials Stallion Parade. We attended Thursday for sports horses and Friday for native breeds. Both of the boys behaved very well, and gave lovely displays in the main ring. Classic Scott is pictured above in the main ring, with Blair Castle in the background.
Fife
We had our first showing outing of 2011 to Fife show.... A clean sweep for Laighlands Stud!
Ginger Colleen won the in hand broodmare class, her foal, Laighlands Dark Lochnagar, by Classic Scott won the in hand hunter foal class (pictured above). Then Ginger's yearling, Laighlands Bonnie Laddie, by Ebony Hill won the hunter yearling class (pictured below). Smiles all round for the "show team" long may the smiles continue!!
Campsie
Our second show of the season was Campsie Show, where Huntingfield Beauty won the in hand hunter brood mare class, her foal by Classic Scott, Laighlands Ben Cruachan, won the in hand hunter foal class. Our home bred three year old filly, Laighlands Meg O' the Mill was second in the two and three year old in hand hunter class and our home bred two year old gelding, Laiglands Loch Tay was third . Then Huntingfield Beauty went on to stand Reserve Champion. Another great day for the "show team"!!
Angus
Show outing number three was to Angus, and another successful day was had. Huntingfield Beauty again deservedly took the hunter mare class, and Laighlands Ben Cruachan took the foal class. The pair are pictured above.
We took our home bred gelding Laighlands Silver Earl to his debut show and he was third in the ridden Irish Draught class and won a very strong in hand class. He went on to stand Reserve Irish Draught Champion. He is pictured below
North Yorks County Show
Show number four was a long drive down to North Yorkshire, but the trip was made worthwhile as Laighlands Bonnie Laddie won the ID in hand yearling class and secured his qualifying place for the National Bred Show's youngstock challenge. Laighlands Bonnie Lassie was third and was very unlucky to miss out on a qualifying place, but she trotted out beautifully and we were pleased with her in this very strong class. Laighlands Loch Tay was second in the two and three year old class so he will also be making the trip to the breed show.
Rio (Bonnie Laddie) spends most of his time sleeping when not showing as pictured above!
Doune and Dunblane
This time Laighlands Bonnie Lassie headed up the in hand hunter yearling class and Laighlands Bonnie Laddie was second. Laighlands Silver Earl was second in a strong novice hunter class, and was really starting to get a feel for what is required from him under saddle.
New Deer Show
Another long trip and an ealry start to New Deer Show. We decided to take Laighlands Silver Earl to give him a trip out before the ridden class at Perth, and no one was more delighted than me, when he won the small hunter, then stood Reserve Hunter Champion. This lovely young horse is only four but he is sure to have a great career as a competition horse and is pictured above.
Laighlands Bonnie Lassie was second highest placed yearling, so we are delighted to have now qualified all three youngsters for the Annual Breed Show.
Our first foal of 2011 is Laighlands Dark Lochnagar. A cracking chestnut colt by Classic Scott out of Ginger Colleen. He has inherited his sire's good looks, nature, presence and movement. So much so, that he caught his new owners eye from the field and he is now sold. She will take delivery of him after weaning.
Our second foal of 2011 is Laighlands Ben Cruachan, by Classic Scott, out of Huntingfield Beauty. Stable name Dax has again inherited his sire's wonderful athletic movement, kind temperament, and intelligence. He’s chestnut at the moment, but is looking like he will go grey. His first outing will be to Campsie Show on the 4th June. Dax is for sale at weaning.
Foal number three, named Darragh is a lovely chestnut colt with four perfect white socks. Out of Meadowbank Queen, by Classic Scott, he is a friendly, great natured wee chap.... and my showjumper of the future!!
Foal number four is a lovely black colt (going grey), with a white blaze and two white socks by Classic Scott out of Enniskeane Duchess. Stable name Dakro, show name to follow, is another cracking foal, Classic Scott certainly seems to be stamping his stock with presence and lovely light free movement.
Foal number six, a chestnut filly by Classic Scott out of Lady Grace of Laylandii. She has a sweet inquisistive nature and we hope she willl stay at Laighlands Stud as a broodmare for the future.
