Classic Scott (stable name Brodie) has just returned to us for his stud duties after spending eight weeks in training with Stefani Hoenemann who is a qualified German riding instructor (Pferdewirtschaftsmeister) at the Cabin in Inverurie.
Below are a few of the things Steffi emailed to tell us how she found training Brodie.
“In the following weeks, I also began to appreciate Brodie’s extraordinary good temperament more and more. I have a lot of experience with warmblood stallions – some very nice ones, too – but never had I come across a stallion who was so super easy to work with. Brodie never shows any more interest in other horses than any old gelding. As soon as I get on him, he just focuses on the job, which is to be a competition horse. I’ve ridden him on his own and in company, in and out, even in the middle of our school-ponies and he has never batted an eyelid. He has got a lot to learn but he learns easily, even enthusiastically. On Sunday, we are going to compete in our first Novice dressage test together. I’m sure, it will be fun! (That competition is now behind us and we finished 3rd in Novice 37. Brodie was, of course, somewhat green but, as always, impeccably behaved and showing great promise)”
“I have also started to jump Brodie under saddle and I think he will have a great future as a showjumper. I have ridden him in two clinics with Andrew Hamilton and Andrew was very impressed, both with Brodie’s super attitude and with his jumping abilities. Brodie has a big, bold jump, with a lovely shape over a fence, scope to burn and is extremely careful. I haven’t jumped a lot in recent years but I have thoroughly enjoyed jumping Brodie! A friend of mine (who features in the photos) has ridden him on a couple of occasions and also loved his work ethics, his paces and his jumping. ‘Wow!’ she exclaimed more than once. ‘What a super feeling he gives you over as fence!’”
“After the competition on Sunday, Brodie will be going home because he is needed for stud duties. He will be trained by the owners’ daughter and competed in the showjumping ring by a young professional showjumper. Though I look forward to seeing him go out and do great things – as I am sure he will – I will miss him very much: his handsome face looking out over the stable door, his kisses and cuddles, the dressage training and the jumping. One thing is for certain: after training Classic Scott, I will never think of Irish Draught horses as plough horses again”
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Steffi for all the hard work, expertise, and obviously a little bit of love, she put into Brodie!
